The fall semester is nearly over and all the leaves have fallen from the trees. We are busy checking the boxes on preparing for winter and thinking about the dawning of a new year. My thoughts turn to my garden, thinking back on what went well, where I floundered, mistakes I made, and ideas for next season. The academic year is like a gardening season. We go in with high hopes, new tools, lessons learned and with some anticipation for a "do over". Every season, every academic year, begins anew.
I will use this blog to share my thoughts and ideas about student success using the metaphor of gardening, my second greatest passion. The first is my commitment to student success. I have spent more than 20 years in public higher education. And every academic year, actually every new semester, still brings me joy, both the anticipation and the potential to make a difference for students.
I hope you join me on this journey.
